Q1: Who are on the Medical
and Biotech Developments, Inc. teams?
A: Sam Burd, the President of Medical and Biotech Developments, Inc.,
first started as a full time consultant in the early 1990's. Over the years, various experts joined with
Sam on multi-disciplinary projects that required unique specialties. This association of experts became
Burd Consulting Associates in the late 1990šs then was incorporated as
Medical and Biotech Developments, Inc. in 2004. We work in
engineering teams and
business oriented teams. Each area has its own Specialists and its own network from which to
draw additional staffing as a project requires. In this way, we keep overhead to a minimum.
Q2 : What kind
of projects are taken?
A: Medical and Biotech Developments takes projects that are
single technology based or for multi-disciplinary systems, large or small, time dependent or ongoing,
applying tried and true designs or inventing patentable designs. Much of our collective experience has
focused on medical or biotech products,
so we tend to get projects in those markets; however, we do service other markets using the expertise
gained from decades of broad based engineering and project management. Click to see write-ups on some of our
previous engineering projects and
business oriented projects.
Q3 : How does Medical
and Biotech Developments start projects?
A: We start by discussing your needs, what consulting might help you, and the goals for that consulting. We can start on an advisory basis,
small tasks that grow into projects, or full responsibility for major projects. To see more detail on our methodology, click on how we work .
Q4 : Is there a charge for the first discussion?
A: There is no charge for initial discussion whether by phone, e-mail, or a local visit (within the greater San Francisco Bay/Silicone Valley Areas).
Q5 : How is our work priced
A: Since every project is unique, fees are based on the estimated work. Consulting services can be arranged by time & materials (plus expenses),
on retainer, or fixed price by the project with agreed to phases and milestones. Terms are usually net 10, and if not milestone dependent, invoices are sent bi-weekly or monthly.
Q6 : Are there location restrictions on Medical and Biotech Developments projects?
A: Medical and Biotech Developments is centered in the San Francisco Bay Area, near Silicon Valley. We've managed projects in Northern and Southern California, Chicago, Seattle, Texas, Florida, Boston, New York/New Jersey,
and Italy. We take a hands-on approach to all projects, but not all projects need our on-site presence. For some, the work has been efficiently completed via phone, e-mail, regular postal mailing, and over-night shipments. For others, we've traveled to the appropriate site starting the project and visited as often and as long as needed.
Now you see how we work, let's discuss your needs.
