Team Approach: Additional Staffing

COMPANY OVERVIEW

When project teams need additional staff, Medical and Biotech Developments, Inc. draws from a network of experts. Since these personnel join the teams only when they are required, projects aren't burdened with unused labor costs. Multidisciplinary projects can be quickly staffed without a consulting firm's high overhead (e.g. marketing to keep employees busy, underutilized specialized facilities, or bureaucratic administrative costs). The following are examples of the network that project teams draw on to add ancillary staff when needed:

TECHNOLOGY CONSULTANTS via Technical Alliance Bridge (TAB)
TAB is an alliance of diverse consultants that work together on an as needed basis. Each member is an expert that works independently or owns their own consulting firm. It is based in Silicon Valley and each member has niche expertise valued by that hi-tech community. This alliance can provide access to hard to find experts to niche technologies. Click here to go to the TAB web site.

INDUSTRY EXPERTS who were associates at former employers/clients
Many former work associates, have become consultants or now work for firms that promote (or at least allow) contracting. These include former co-workers, bosses, and employees. Click to see a partial list of former clients.

STUDENTS AND EX-STUDENTS from E-110 Venture Design Class
This class is taught at the UC Berkeley in the School of Engineering. Many of the over 700 students have gone on to become venture capitalists, corporate leaders, engineering managers, and consultants to the hi-tech industries. By keeping in touch with former students, access to the technical and entrepreneurial forefront is maintained.

VARIOUS CONSULTANTS via seminars given on consulting
"Starting as an Independent Consultant" was taught at University of California Berkeley Extension, and presented at local and national technical society meetings. The seminars helped professionals start consulting and thus these contacts form a network of diverse experts.

MANAGERS via coaching at CEO
Coaching of transitioning high level managers was contracted by The Center for Executive Options (CEO), a division of Drake Beam Morin Inc. CEO assists former executives of major corporations transition to new careers. The entrepreneurial coaching was contracted for executives who specifically expressed interest in an entrepreneurial path. Their background was reviewed and a unique program was setup to help them evaluate their applicable skills.

TECHNOLOGY PROFESSIONALS through membership in Societies and Associations
MECHANICAL ENGINEERS via American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
BIOTECH EXPERTS via The California Society Of Separation Sciences (CaSSS)
MEMS EXPERTS via MEMS Journal Club
PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERS via National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE)
